Key Techniques for goal setting

You set your mind to do something, say operate a business, create a course, write a book, etc. So that these task can happen and have optimal results consideration and brainstorming of how to meet these goals require effort on your part in constructing the desired outcome.

In order to have organization during the process of accomplishing your goals certain steps must be followed in order to have success.

1. Balance and Inspirational: During the course of life you will have variant goals, i.e. personal development, financial and object (things) goals. Lessor of the three is things goals as it is human to want things just keep in mind they should be a combines with the other two. So balance is key in structuring your goals, to not lose focus.

Remember, when setting these goals ensure to incorporate what are important to you and the added value in achievement. They should be related to the high priorities of your goals. For any reason you lack interest of the desired outcome or they are irrelevant more than likely you will not put forth effort in obtaining them.

2. Plan Of Action: Often dismissed as a goal setting process. A plan of action can help in following your goals structure. Goals are significant elements for development and not looked at as simple “To Do”. Take them seriously as goals are intended to set you on a successful path. Your plan of actions should be clear enough that the set goals are lead by your plan. Map out daily actions that will allow you to compare the effectiveness of your goals. Having steps that are written and marked as you complete them is a visual for tracking your progress.

Tip: Share your goals with people who will support and encourage your aims.

3. Apply the SMART rule: Generally speaking goals should be designed according to the SMART concept. They should follow these guidelines:

• Specific.
• Measurable.
• Attainable.
• Relevant.
• Time Bound.
Set Specific Goals
When creating your goals make sure they are well defined Vague or generalized goals are useless as there is no specific direction for sufficient outcomes. Keep in mind, goals are made to give you directions, so make them easily obtainable to get you where you want to be by detailing your endpoint.
Set Measurable Goals
To measure your level of success be sure to include completion dates and numbers (amounts) you want to reach. If you define your goal by simply stating “Increase Traffic” there are no clear indicators to measure when you have been successful. In 30 days if you have a 2% reduction instead of increase or in one years’ time there is a 15% increase, without any data to go on there is no way to measure your success. It is important to keep up with your stats so that you don’t miss out on knowing what you actually achieved. It would be nice to celebrate and know where your success is due in part to.
Set Attainable Goals
When making your goals resist the urge of setting ones that are quite easy to obtain. Meaning they should be challenging but capable of achieving and not too easy. They should be realistic goals that make sense to accomplishing your ultimate goal. There is little satisfaction in obtaining a goal where you put in little to no effort to make it happen. You risk putting yourself in a position that can make you hesitant in making future goals that carry a sense of non-achievement. If you set goals that are challenging and realistic you meet the balance strategy. These goals push you to the highest levels whilst rewarding you with great satisfaction.
Set Relevant Goals
Does it relate to your success journey? The relevancy of your goals lead you to follow the direction that you envision your career and life to be. Aligning your goals with your paths keeps you focused so that you may stay ahead.
Set Time-Bound Goals
Goals should have a deadline. Set a timeframe in which you wish to meet your goal. Remember, you want to keep track of your successes along the way. Deadlines are there to keep you moving forward. So when you work on implementing dates of completion it increases urgency and your achievement becomes that much closer.
4. Write them down: You know your goals are real because they are responsibilities you hope to tackle. But, to hold you accountable, record them by writing them down. The act of putting pen to paper makes them tangible and unforgettable. Put your goals on a note card, sticky note or sheet of paper to hang on a mirror, keep in the car or any other place you frequent so you can review daily. Your focus should be centered around your goals.

5. Stay the course: Don’t give up, your goals and the actions you take to make them happen are different. You should not be fearful of trying one thing and then trying something else if it fails or doesn’t work out quite the way you hoped in the beginning. To meet your goals efficient and effective action will get you there. Understand that you will make some mistakes along the way, don’t let that stop you from moving forward in achieving your goals. Because you misstep continue to trust the process, don’t think the goals are flawed or unobtainable. Mistakes are allowed during the journey, don’t risk missing out simply by walking away.
